A woman aged in her 50s has been rushed to hospital following a collision between a car and an e-scooter in busy morning traffic in Wexford town.
The incident took place at around 7.30 a.m. at the Mulgannon Roundabout and saw a major response with Gardaí, the Fire Service and the National Ambulance Service all in attendance.
The woman was brought to Wexford General Hospital for further treatment, but thankfully her injuries are understood to be minor. Gardaí said that no statements were taken at the scene, but the incident will be investigated.
The introduction of the country’s first public shared e-scooter scheme in Wexford last year was a source of some controversy. While operators Bolt received a warm welcome for their e-bikes, there was less enthusiasm for the e-scooters, with many feeling that they were considerably more dangerous.
It is unclear at this stage whether the e-scooter involved in this incident was part of the Bolt network or a privately owned e-scooter.
Wexford’s Oisín McDonagh played a key role for the Ireland Men's Under-17 team as they made history by qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the first time.
